I am the special education teacher consultant at Wilson Middle School.  I have worked in the Wyandotte School system for sixteen years in a variety of different positions.  Prior to that, I was a special education teacher at St. Francis Home for Boys, a residential treatment facility for emotionally impaired boys in Detroit.  My Wyandotte experiences include 5th and 6th grade general education teacher at Washington Elementary, resource room teacher at Monroe Elementary, special education team teacher at Roosevelt High and Wilson Middle schools.

I have a Bachelors degree in special education, with an emotional impairment endorsement from Eastern Michigan University and a Masters degree from Marygrove College.

I have been married for 32 yrs and have three adult children, all Roosevelt High School graduates.  We became grandparents in December of 2010.  Since our son and daughter- in- law live nearby, we get a lot of opportunities to enjoy our beautiful granddaughter.

I am looking forward to working with our students, parents and staff at Wilson Middle School.  It is certainly our universal goal to prepare our kids for high school by providing them with the educational and social experiences they need to be successful.  I am committed to working with students and staff to ensure that your kids are provided with realistic expectations, goals and support so that they meet with success.  It’s going to be an exciting year and know I am always available if you have any questions or concerns.

I have been in the Wyandotte Public School district for 13 years, and have had the pleasure of being at Wilson Middle School for twelve of these years. My first seven years were spent teaching special education, and the past five were spent teaching eight grade language arts before I returned to the Special Education team for the 2009-2010 school year.  This flexibility has afforded me the opportunity to work with a variety of students and as well as utilize several different teaching strategies.  I thoroughly enjoy working with the staff and this particular age level and I know it reflects in my teaching and every day contact with staff and students.

I attended Eastern Michigan University and received my special education degree with an endorsement in Emotional Impairment and a minor in language arts.  I received my master’s degree in learning disabilities from EMU a few years later.  I plan on pursuing a reading specialist degree from the University of Michigan as well.

I am looking forward to working with both the Wilson Middle School students and parents so all of us can have a fabulous and productive year!

This is my fourth year as a teacher at Wilson. I am passionate about teaching, learning, and teamwork. My passions make Wilson Middle School the perfect place for me!  My educational career began at Northern Michigan University. Once I decided to obtain a degree in Special Education; I knew I had to attend the best school for teaching, Eastern Michigan University.  I completed my Master's Degree in Special Education with an additional endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder.  I have experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at Madison School, a center based program in our district.  I have been in the district for well over four years because of my two wonderful student teaching opportunities.  I student taught at Wilson with Mr. Jesue. I student taught general education at McKinley Elementary School with Ms. Tittle.  I am looking forward to working with both the WMS students and parents.

6th Grade Special Education Teacher

As part of the Special Education Team here at Wilson, I am excited to be working with our new 6th grade class.  This is my 5th year teaching.  My first year of teaching was split between Taft and Wilson.  It was a very warm and welcoming year for me having grown up in Wyandotte and attended both of these schools as a child.  My following three years included splits between Taft/McKinley and Taft/Monroe.  I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to expose myself to these unique environments.  It has made me a more well rounded and flexible teacher.

I received my teaching degree from the University of Detroit Mercy with an endorsement in Learning Disabilities as well as Emotionally Impaired.  I also have a minor in Mathematics.   I am currently working on my MA in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.  I believe knowledge symbolizes a universal key that provides access to all doors.  It exposes an infinite world of possibilities, while allowing students the opportunity to chase, as well as, achieve their dreams.  This can be done by making what students learn- interesting, fun, and imaginative!  I believe every child should be able to develop to his/her fullest potential- physically, socially, emotionally, and academically, while at a pace that is appropriate for them.   I am very excited and looking forward to working with our new Wilson students and their parents.

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Sutka, I am a School Social Worker. I have been involved with Wyandotte Public Schools for the past 16
years.  My husband and I have 2 daughters ages 12 and 14 and 1 crazy dog!
I received my undergraduate education at Michigan State University and received my Masters degree from the University of Michigan.  I have worked as a children’s therapist at The Guidance Center and have held various positions within both Detroit and Wyandotte Public Schools.  I have been lucky enough to work with students from birth thru high school graduation.  I love being here at Wilson!  Middle School is such an important time in a student’s life.  It is a time of intense growth and learning and more importantly a time for the students to become independent thinkers.   My role is to help guide students in making responsible choices and learn how to effectively communicate with both peers and adults.   I know middle school
can be a challenging time and I look forward to helping all students chose a successful educational path.

Mrs. Bjork
Instructional Aide EXT 5370

Hi.  My name is Joann Bjork and I am an Instructional Aide at Wilson Middle School.  I started in the Wyandotte Public Schools four years ago as an aide at Garfield Elementary.  I came to Wilson in 2005 and just LOVE it!  As an aide I work in six different classrooms throughout the day, usually in six different subjects.  I work closely with those students that are in the Special Education program as well as all the other students in the classroom.  I try to always be available to the students for any help they need in any of their subjects, whether it is a homework assignment or a project.
I have been married for 30+ years and have a son, daughter-in-law, and daughter.  All three have a college education, and when my daughter went off to college I took it as an incentive to finish my ‘2-year’ degree that I had started 30 years ago.  I graduated from Henry Ford Community College with honors and I use my pursuit of a degree as an example that you can achieve your goals, it just may take time.
I have been involved in the Japanese Komaki exchange program here at Wilson for the past three years.  This program offers students a chance to get a better understanding of the culture of Japan through students from Komaki.  I look forward to working with all students and staff at WMS to help make this year a success.

Chris Berg
Instructional Aide
EXT 5370

Picture
My name is Chris Berg and I am an Instructional Aide at Wilson Middle School.  This is my second year with the Wyandotte School District. Last year I worked at Jefferson Elementary School and I loved it.
This is my first year at Wilson Middle School and I have to say that I am looking forward to working with all the great Teachers and Students here. I work one on one with many  students throughout the day in six different periods. I enjoy working in the special education department because I get to help kids establish independence and confidence in themselves so they can succeed in the real world while giving them that extra guidance that they need.  Also, I like to work with all the kids who need help in all the classes whenever need be.

Teaching is my first passion in life, I feel there is not a more rewarding and gratifying job in the world. I want to be that teacher who kids have to come back to visit years later. I have a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts from Wayne State University.  Currently, I am seeking a teaching certification with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Biology at the University of Dearborn Michigan. Although, I will be a General Education teacher, I feel working with Special Needs students as an Instructional Aid will help me cater more efficiently to their needs in a classroom when I become a
teacher in the future. Moreover, I am a natural health advocate, an
environmentalist, and a voracious reader. I tutor two days a week and hit the gym five days a week as well. I feel to be effective in any endeavor in life you need to have a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Finally, with this philosophy I hope to make an impact on students this year at Wilson so they can become lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
